About 50 percent of women are experiencing some degree of hair loss before they reach the age of 50. While aging and genetic both contribute to hair loss, it becomes worse during menopause.
According to The North American Menopause Society, the women’s bodies produce lower estrogen and progesterone during menopause. These two hormones are significant to hair growth and strength. Hence, an imbalance between these two results to thinning hair and eventually falling hair.
There are many hair loss treatments which are available in the market; some are in fact over-the-counter drugs. It is important to note, however, that the FDA has only approved two hair loss treatments for women: a topical application known as Minoxidil and Low-Level Laser (Light) Therapy or LLLT.
Laser Hair Growth Technology
A study published in the US National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health states that LLLT for hair growth in both men and women appears to be both safe and effective. Specifically, they found that LLLT stimulates the epidermal stem cells in the hair follicle bulge and shifts the follicles into anagen phase which is the period of normal and active growth of hair follicles.
One device that makes use of LLLT is the HairMax LaserBand 82. This piece of equipment is designed with three components: the hair parting teeth, laser light intensity, and laser light density.
The laser lights stimulate the hair follicles to kindle active hair growth. Specifically, the HairMax LaserBand 82 emits therapeutic light energy to the hair follicles with the help of 82 medical-grade lasers. Note that these lasers are not LED lights.
The hair parting teeth design, meanwhile, divides hair on its own while the device is being worn. This capability allows the appropriate amount of laser lights to reach the follicles.
Regular use of the device reverses hair thinning and subsequently restores the natural growth cycle. The ideal use of the device is three times a week or every other day.
The Effectiveness of Laser Hair Growth Technology
The HairMax LaserBand 82 has been clinically proven in seven clinical trials participated by both men and women. The trials have shown that the device can increase hair count in an average of 129 additional hairs per square inches. The device is cleared by FDA and promises 90 percent success rate.
In general, experts recommend that LLLT be immediately used during the early signs of hair loss. It will already be too late if the hair follicles have already died as they will be incapable of growing hair.
